Crafted the Traditional Way

From fresh milk to golden ghee, one careful step at a time

We start with fresh cow's milk from trusted farms, cultured into yogurt and churned into traditional makhan (cultured butter). That butter is then simmered slowly over a low flame for several hours, letting the milk solids separate naturally while the signature nutty aroma and rich golden colour develop. It's a process that demands constant attention — but it's the only way to get real desi ghee.

Our Ghee Partner

Simply The Great

Simply The Great is a Pakistan-based natural foods marketplace started in 2016 by two old friends, Shehroze and Daniyal, out of a shared interest in health and wellness. What began as a small honey-sourcing project has grown into a wider marketplace for honey, saffron, ghee, oils, and other artisan foods.

Their Desi Ghee is made fresh at their own facility every morning, from 100% cow's milk simmered slowly over a low flame for several hours — the same traditional method behind every jar we bring into Pardes Foods.

Common Questions

Everything you're wondering about our ghee

If you don't see your question here, reach out and we'll help you out directly.

What is desi ghee made from?+
Our Desi Ghee is made from 100% pure cow's milk — no vegetable oils, blends, or substitutes. The milk is cultured, churned into traditional makhan, and slow-simmered until only the pure golden fat remains.
Does it need to be refrigerated?+
No. Store it in a cool, dry place and it doesn't need refrigeration. Just keep the lid tightly closed after each use and always dip in with a clean, dry spoon to keep moisture out.
Is ghee the same as regular butter?+
Not quite. Ghee is butter that's been slow-simmered until the milk solids and water separate out, leaving behind pure butterfat. That process is what gives ghee its nutty aroma, golden colour, higher smoke point, and longer shelf life compared to regular butter.
Is it suitable for people who are sensitive to dairy?+
Because the milk solids are separated out during the simmering process, most of the lactose and casein are removed, which is why many people with mild dairy sensitivities find ghee easier to tolerate than butter. That said, ghee is still a dairy product — if you have a diagnosed lactose intolerance or dairy allergy, please check with your doctor before trying it.
What does it taste like?+
Rich, nutty, and buttery, with a warm aroma that develops during the slow-simmering process — a deeper, more complex flavour than regular butter, and the taste most South Asian kitchens grew up with.
Can I use it for high-heat cooking?+
Yes — that's one of the main reasons people cook with it. Ghee has a naturally high smoke point, which makes it well suited to frying, sautéing, roasting, and the high-heat styles common in Pakistani and South Asian cooking.
How long does a jar last once opened?+
Thanks to its low moisture content, properly stored ghee keeps well for a long time at room temperature. Just make sure the jar stays sealed and no water gets introduced with a wet spoon.
Where does your ghee come from?+
We source it from Simply The Great, a Pakistan-based natural foods marketplace, who make it fresh at their own facility every morning using 100% cow's milk and the same traditional slow-simmer method described above.
