Saffron — the world's most treasured spice.

زعفران

Naturally grown and hand-harvested in Afghanistan and Iran, graded A+ under ISO 3632 standards — prized for its deep aroma, fire-red colour, and rich flavour.

Why It's Called Red Gold

Grown by hand, in one of the few places on earth it thrives

Saffron comes from the threads of a single flower, hand-picked one by one — which is why it's among the most limited and sought-after spices in the world. Ours is naturally grown and hand-harvested in Afghanistan and Iran, then triple-inspected so only the deepest fire-red threads make it into the jar.

Why People Reach For It

What a pinch of saffron may do for you

01

A Powerful Antioxidant

Saffron contains an impressive variety of plant compounds that act as antioxidants — molecules that help protect your cells against free radicals and oxidative stress.

02

More Energy and Better Sleep

Saffron has been associated with improvements in insomnia, sleep quality, and restorative sleep. Crocin and safranal, two of its natural compounds, may support non-REM sleep duration and help reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.

03

Less Stress and a Brighter Mood

Saffron is nicknamed the "sunshine spice" — not just for its colour, but because it may help support a brighter, more balanced mood.

04

Sharper Focus and Memory

Crocetin, crocin, and safranal — three antioxidants found in saffron — may help support memory and learning ability, and research suggests they may help protect brain cells against oxidative stress.

05

Eye Health

Some research suggests saffron may support eyesight in adults with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and may help protect against the free-radical damage linked to AMD.

06

Glowing Skin

As a natural antioxidant, saffron may help brighten the skin without harsh side effects. Studies suggest crocin may help protect skin against the effects of aging and pollutants that generate free radicals.

These points reflect general research and traditional use of saffron and are not medical claims — saffron is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition. Consult a doctor before using it for a specific health purpose, especially during pregnancy.

Simply The Great

Simply The Great is a Pakistan-based natural foods marketplace started in 2016 by two old friends, Shehroze and Daniyal, out of a shared interest in health and wellness. What began as a small honey-sourcing project has grown into a wider marketplace for honey, saffron, ghee, oils, and other artisan foods.

Their saffron is naturally grown and hand-harvested in Afghanistan and Iran, then triple-inspected so only the deepest fire-red threads make it through — the same Grade A+, ISO 3632 saffron we bring into Pardes Foods.

Common Questions

Everything you're wondering about our saffron

If you don't see your question here, reach out and we'll help you out directly.

Where does your saffron come from?+
We source it from Simply The Great, a Pakistan-based natural foods marketplace who work directly with growers in Afghanistan and Iran. Every batch is naturally grown, hand-harvested, and triple-inspected before it reaches us.
What does "Grade A+, ISO 3632" actually mean?+
ISO 3632 is the international standard used to grade saffron, based on three measurable compounds: safranal (aroma), crocin (colour strength), and picrocrocin (flavour). Grade A+ (sometimes called Category I) is the highest tier — it means the saffron has been lab-tested, not just labeled premium.
How much saffron should I use?+
Saffron is potent, so a little goes a long way — a small pinch (roughly 15–20 threads) is usually enough for a pot of rice or a pan of biryani. Soaking the threads in a little warm water or milk for 10–15 minutes before adding them helps release more colour and flavour.
How should I store it?+
Keep it in its sealed glass jar, away from direct light and heat — a cool, dry cupboard works well. Properly stored, saffron threads keep their aroma and colour for a long time; just make sure the lid is closed tightly after each use.
Is saffron safe to use during pregnancy?+
Saffron is fine in normal culinary amounts for most people, but larger, concentrated amounts are generally advised against during pregnancy. If you're pregnant or nursing, please check with your doctor before using saffron beyond typical cooking quantities.
How can I tell it's real saffron and not a substitute?+
Real saffron threads are trumpet-shaped with a slightly frayed edge, deep red with the occasional yellow-orange tip, and release colour slowly into warm water or milk rather than all at once. Ours is triple-inspected specifically to keep out lookalikes like safflower or dyed corn silk.
Does saffron actually have health benefits?+
Saffron contains natural antioxidant compounds, and it's traditionally associated with supporting mood, sleep, and overall wellbeing. These are general and traditional associations rather than medical claims — saffron isn't intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition.
